PROYECTO DE GESTION INDEPENDIENTE.
APROXIMACIONES AL CONCEPTO
PLANET 22
-How does your space define
its independent character?
There is no independent space,
only different ways of beeing
dependent:
In our case, there was for
two years ( the beginning)
no money at all, so we were
depending of the artist's
will to pay for his own exhibition.
We are constantly depending
on friends to help us with
translation, transport, logistic…..etc).
it's an alternative kind of
depending, functioning, exchange,
participation.
We defend planet22 as our
artisic work, so the external
financial support can't demande
any conditions of the work.
-Does your curatorial practice
have a specific orientation
and is it based on
an established model of curating?
Our space is an inbetween
situation: in/out, public/privat….
we're dealing with it's condition:
the space is the curator,
the emplacement and the size
imposes certain questions
that lead us to artists who
deal with the same conditions
and questions.
-How does your space interpret
ideas about power and politics?
The space itself has a public
and a private side, so it
invites artists do think about
politics and poetics, about
publicity and spectacles.
The street is the red light
street in geneva, prostitutes
are working in the streets,
one I s also living in the
house, so there is a lot of
power and non-power relations
pending in the air.
-How is your space run financially?
After two years of no-money-at-all,
we're getting money from the
state of switzerland, and
two culture-fondations of
mayor swiss-firms. We are
able to pay transportation
, production and paper-stuff,
-Describe the artistic scene
in your local context
-Does your space have a specific
policy regarding publications?
No.
-Does your space promote
the insertion of local artistic
production into a
global context? How and why
we're trying to organize
our programm that we invite
every year 2 artistes from
geneva oor the region. We
promote them at the same level
as the other artist we work
with, there is no disco poster
with the wellknow dj in Mayor
letters and the local ones
in the bottom too small to
read.. it is important to
us to insert at least one
local artist in our annual
programme.
